General information about the Fellowships for 2026 entry 

• There will be five Fellowships lasting nine months each offered at UBEL DTP 

• Submission of the complete application must be made by 1 June 23:59. Late applications cannot be accepted. This date applies to all DTPs and has been agreed with ESRC. 

• UBEL DTP Fellowship applicants must have completed the Pre-registration questionnaire and started their Fellowship application form by 18 May 23:59. The Full form will not be available to new applicants after this date. 

• Only one full Fellowship application may be made to a single DTP. Candidates may apply for more than Preliminary stage where a DTP offers this, but only one full application to a single DTP will be accepted. 

• The Fellowship must start on 1 October 2026, with full-time Fellowships completed by 30 June 2027 (part-time 31 March 2028) 
  

• Successful candidates will not be able to defer entry beyond 1 October 2026 

• New research cannot be funded through these awards 

• Applicants must have completed their doctorate in the UK at a UK research organisation 

• Applicants will be required to have a mentor based at the research organisation where the fellowship is held 

• The Head of Department at the applicant’s proposed department must submit a statement of support by the deadline of 
   1 June 2026 23:59. 

• Applicants must have submitted their thesis and passed their viva voce (or passed subject to minor corrections) by 1 June 2026.

• The PhD must have been awarded by the Fellowship start date of 1 October 2026.
